Every firearms instructor needs a range knife that is both good quality and inexpensive so an instructor won't hesitate to put it to work. And, if it becomes damaged or lost then the instructor is not out a lot of money. Plus, most instructors don't want to put range use on a EDC knife they use for on-duty/off-duty self defense purposes.
We selected the Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT) M16-10KZ for the NLEFIA Range Knife. It was designed by legendary knifemaker and retired Sgt. Major Harold "Kit" Carson (deceased in 2014). This knife is a perfect balance of quality and price. It has a high carbon stainless steel blade and a glass reinforced skeletonized nylon handle with metal liner. The blade features a tanto tip for puncturing durability, a partially serrated blade for cutting power, and a black corrosion resistant EDP coating. It also has a duel locking system to prevent the blade from unintentionally closing. The knife has "NLEFIA" laser engraved on one side of the blade and "INSTRUCTOR" lase engraved on the other side of the blade.
