Tactical Firearms Instructor Certification

This 3-day / 24-hour instructor certification course is designed to teach firearms instructors the various principles and safety considerations associated with conducting tactics-oriented live-fire team drills and scenarios. Most basic firearms instructor don’t cover this aspect of firearms training. In fact, this type of training is often deferred to force-on-force training environments.  However, nothing solidifies the knowledge, confidence, and safe application of tactics like performing them under live-fire conditions.

NOTE: This course requires the use of carbines / rifles. Students don't need to be certified as a rifle instructor to attend.  However, students must have successfully completed a rifle operator certification course of 16+ hours to attend this course.

  • Firearms safety vs. range safety
  • Legal justification for training
  • Training responsibilities
  • Student preparation
  • What types of tasks/scenarios to conduct
  • Conducting drills vs conducting scenarios
  • Proper instructor positioning to maintain control
  • Converting solo drills into team drills
  • Developing and safely conducting tactical team drills and scenarios

Required Equipment: 

  • Pistol and three magazines
  • Carbine / rifle with three magazines and tactical sling
  • 300 rounds of ammo for each weapon system
  • Eye & ear protection
  • Hat with a brim
  • Knee and elbow pads
  • Black marker
  • Weather-related gear
  • Hydration fluids & snacks

Hosting Requirements: 

  • Classroom with projector and white screen
  • A 25-100 yard range
  • At least eight (8) portable target frames
  • At least four (4) portable cover stands to shoot around. Ideally, stable enough to shoot braced
  • Props to build mock rooms on the range
  • 10-15 traffic / sport cones cones
